The new mix is here! It’s a slight departure from what I normally gravitate toward, which is usually folk/pop music. But lately I’ve really been getting into more of the indie dance stuff…and it’s good. Real good. This mix has definitely added some fun to my runs lately. So, without further ado, here it is…
Get Mixtaped Volume 4: Let’s Dance - - Download here
Disclaimer: This mix is definitely a little dance heavy, thus the title. But there are a couple tracks that don’t quite fit the category. Just a head’s up.
“Let’s Go Home” - Carousel  This is one of my new favorite bands. Hailing from Boston, Carousel’s music is super catchy and incredibly smooth. It’s indie pop with a little electronica mixed in. Go to their website to download some of their other singles for free.
“Youth” - Foxes  Amazing voice and great dance-pop. It starts slow, but builds into something I couldn’t stop listening to. Somehow, this track has been in my iTunes folder for a while and I just recently started listening to it. Should have paid it more attention.
“It’s Time (Penguin Prison Remix)” - Imagine Dragons  I’m liking this band A TON right now. And this song is incredibly catchy and has a fresh, funky beat. First released on an EP back in February, “It’s Time” has been remixed several times. This is by far my favorite of the remixes. To hear the original and the other songs from the EP, go to their website. And for an AMAZING acoustic music video for this song (Thanks to my friend, Josh, for pointing it out to me!), go here.
“Warrior” - Mark Foster, A-Trak, Kimbra  This is the newest collaboration from Converse’s “3 Artists, 1 Song” project. It’s definitely got a Mark Foster sound to it, which is not a bad thing at all. Although it’s kind of weird that a shoe company is heading this up, I like the end result quite a bit. The music video is worth checking out if you’re looking for something entertaining.
“The Night Out (Madeon Remix)” - Martin Solveig  I don’t really know anything about this song, but I stumbled across it somewhere and now I love it. So there ya go.
“King and Lionheart (Dzeko + Torres Streesh Bootleg)” - Of Monsters and Men  I’ve been a fan of OMAM for a while, and even more so since Valerie (shout out!) dragged us to one of their shows a while back. (She didn’t really have to drag us.) And this little remix has had me dancing for a while now.
“It’s Never Over” - Avan Lava  Infectious. You cannot listen to this band without moving your body. I dare you to try. I saw them live at DC9 not too long ago and it was AMAZING. Probably the most fun I’ve ever had at a show. This song is my favorite at the moment, but  you should check out The Easy Way as well. Oh! And the music video for “It’s Never Over” is great, too.
“Too Young” - Ghost Beach  This band has my attention. Every song of theirs that I hear is “my new favorite!” I couldn’t decide if I wanted to put this song on here, or “Empty Streets.” I finally decided on “Too Young,” but I really like the video for “Empty Streets,” so here’s that, too.
“What Would You Do?” - Bastille  Yup, it’s a cover of City High’s song from ‘01. Bastille covered it sometime last fall and it’s….well, depressing. But oh so good. This electro-pop duo from the UK do a great job on this. Listen all the way through to hear the Requiem for a Dream quotes at the end. What a crazy movie.
“Midnight City (Alcala Remix)” - M83  I know. You’ve heard this song a million times. But I recently found this remix and it’s been getting repeated play on my iPod all over again. Feel free to go crazy when it drops at 1:19.
“The Veldt (Project 46 Happy Technology Pancake)” - Deadmau5  Anything with the name Happy Technology Pancake makes me second guess whether to give it a try or not. But this remix is saweet. Love the beat. Love the vocals. Love the synths.
“November Skies feat. Nina Kinert” - Tomas Barfod  This song starts a little trippy (not in a bad way at all!), but quickly morphs into a nice little dance jam with a fun tropical beat. TB is a DJ who’s played in clubs across Europe and this song has got me looking for more of his stuff.
“Sweater Weather” - The Neighbourhood  This is another band I’ve stumbled across lately and am really loving a lot of their stuff. “Sweater Weather” might not be the best song for summer, but it’s still a great song. And it definitely makes me wish for sweater weather.
“Hurting (Tensnake Remix)” - Friendly Fires  I liked the original. I LOVE the remix.
“Hollywood (featuring Penguin Prison)” - RAC  This is RAC(Remix Artist Collective)’s first original song. I’ve really loved a lot of the remixes they’ve done, so I was excited for this to come out. And I wasn’t disappointed. I’m a big fan.
“Freak” - Urban Cone  Aside from the driving beat, which I always enjoy, what really strikes about this song are the vocals. Very unique. And fits the song quite well. The lyrics are also pretty interesting.
